i should really go back over my 2 1/2 years worth of blogging ... and see just how many times i used "random" in my title! lol! i try to be original ... but the title is actually my most dreaded part of the post. my thoughts are totally jumbled up right now ... so i'm going to just pull a few random things out for tonight.
ok ... i'm done. but mainly because it's 10:00pm. and if i head downstairs right now ... i can squeeze 3 shows in before bed! actually, make that 2 shows ... and my daily dose of the "rachael ray" talkshow which is always the last thing i watch before bed!
in the middle of the chaos i already have going in my studio ... i started this yesterday. you'd think i would just focus on the projects i already had started and get those done. but that's not how my mind works these days. lol!
i had this photo of alyssa printed out from a while ago ... and i just started pulling out some stuff that went. i wanted to use the autumn leaves buttons ... the colors looked so good in the jar. added a journaling notebook page from making memories ... and then pulled out some "garden party" pattern paper and some metal rimmed tags. i've been adding mini brads to my button centers a lot recently ... love how cute it looks. also added a rubon image and the title from heidi swapp.
that's it for now. hoping to finish up a few layouts tonight ... in fact, i really need to since they're due soon. lol! typical laura style ... leave it until the last possible minute. doing things early and ahead of schedule would be too easy! i think i just thrive on that last minute pressure ... i think i create better that way!
the girls each got a few webkinz animals for christmas ... and they have been addicted to the site ever since. so today i took them to pick out a few more with what they had left of their christmas money. of course by the time we got around to getting out ... it was raining big time. so i drove in the craziest rain just to get them to a store that sells them.
each animal comes with a code ... and then you can go on the computer and register them using the code. then you can take care of them, buy them things, design their rooms, play games, and more. last night the girls had a last-minute sleepover with their friends heather and holly (which they loved, so thank you deneen!). they all exchanged their animal's names and info ... and now they can send things to each other and chat.
alyssa now has "icy" the penguin ... "charlotte" the pig ... "ginger" the cow ... and "henry-ada" the hippo.
sarah now has "lily" the bunny ... "logan" the puppy ... "america" the dalmation ... "snowball" the husky ... and "spotty" the frog.
and here's the gang hanging out on the scrap island ... while they watch their owners play on the computer. lol!
and proof that i have scrapped. actually i made this over a week ago ... i just have to write a few things in it. i made this simply "because" ... to give to someone special. i know, i know ... all of you that have names that start with "A" are thinking this is for you. lol! this was made from the large jigsaw chipboard letters from MM ... they're 4 inches square.
have a few more projects i'm finishing up. i have a layout that i will share tomorrow ... i just have to journal it. and then a few things that i'll be able to share later this week.
a few randoms things for today . . .
now that i spent all that time searching for movie links ... i'm too tired to think of much else right now. i hope to be back with some pictures soon. my camera hasn't seen the light of day in ages ... probably because there is no light lately around here. lol! till later!
not quite time to draw names yet ... i said monday night, and it's only 5:00 here. so while you wait ... thought i'd share these 2 layouts i did today.
i can't believe it took me this long to scrap this photo of miranda (a friend of mine's little girl). love my own girls and got some definate good photos of them last year. but honestly ... i think this was my best, my most technically awesome photo of 2007. lol! i got some seriously cute stamps this week from hero arts to play around with. i admit to not being much of a stamper ... mainly because i get lazy. but this was my first attempt. could have done the trees a little better ... i wasn't really paying too much attention to what i was doing and then just decided to use it as it was. and the little circles are too cute!
other goodies are mostly making memories ... the felt flower, chipboard circles, ribbon, and buttons are all from a little kit i found at michaels ... and the rhinestone brads (not from the kit, but still MM). the title and some of the other brads are heidi swapp. stamps and gems are hero arts.
ok ... such a similar photo, but different girlie. lol! i had to use the hat on haley ... and then was lucky enough to find the same shirt that miranda had worn. i was printing some photos last night and had this 4 inch strip down the side of the paper that was empty ... and i hate to waste photo paper. so i printed this photo as a 4x8 ... a little different for me.
and i finally used my ki memories lace paper! i've had this for a while ... but was scared to cut it because it was so pretty! everything else is making memories ... the acrylic frame, epoxy flowers, brads, and chipboard title.
off to finish up dinner. i have the most yummy smelling stew in the crock pot ... i've been sniffing it for the last 8 hours. lol! got the rice going ... and am about to make the best part ... the brown gravy and breadsticks. delicious!
edited to add: thanks so much for all the fun comments. glad to know that i'm not alone in this crazy world ... and this stuff happens to other people too. lol! so i printed out all the comments ... and took out the couple of duplicates (which were honest double posts ... noone is trying to cheat. lol!). then i cut them into strips and crumbled them all up in a pile on the floor ... and picked 2 names. brilliant system, i know! and you'll have to trust my honestly on these ... as i'm too lazy to take pictures of the names i drew. lol!
winners are "laura t" and "sue m"!!! congrats ladies ... send me an email and your address ... if you can catch me in time i'm heading to the post office tomorrow!
i was thinking about this old story a few days ago ... and how it reminds me a lot of things going on right now. i was going to blog about it. but i didn't. then today i was talking to a friend of mine that was there when this old story happened ... and she brought up this same story. i thought that was pretty funny that we both thought about it. so i figured why not re-tell it. may not be the most exciting story (and has nothing to do with scrapping or photography or my kids. lol!) ... but i'm telling it anyways. let's reminisce.
i worked in grocery for years when i was younger. actually i think it was about 12 years worth. i've done it all ... bagger, courtesy clerk, checker, stocker, pricing, dairy, etc. started at safeway, made my way to foodmaxx (after a small stint in an accounting job), and then back to safeway.
anyways ... when i got the job at foodmaxx, i was working in the pricing department (called POS). i helped open up 2 brand-new stores ... we set up the entire store and priced it all and got everything scanning in the system ... worked 18 hour days for weeks. then for the next year i was the assistant in the department. i went on maternity leave to have alyssa ... and when i came back, i actually came back as the head of the department in the other store i had helped open. not like i had a huge department ... we had 3 people to do it all. i had an assistant ... and a sign maker (at foodmaxx we hand-wrote all our signage for displays and such). and i was in charge of pricing for just about the whole store.
we worked the crazy hours ... 3am until noon ... and sometimes midnight until 9am. did all the paperwork ... and there was a ton! any price that changed had to go through me ... sales, group 7's (all buyins), group 49's (where we went 1 cent lower than the weekly competitor ads), disco's, etc. i dealt with vendors (the chip dudes, the soda dudes, the bread dudes, etc), worked with the department heads (meat, produce, gm, bakery), and the night crew manager and grocery manager (to keep up with buyins and when they ran out). printed all the price changes, batched the price changes, hung the tags, changed the signs. we test-scanned the entire store each month ... which involves walking around with a price gun and double checking every item on the shelf and displays to look for any pricing discrepancies. we took care of items that weren't in the system ... checkers would tell us ... and we would go out and hunt that item down and find out if it was authorized. we added new items into the system ... took discontinued items off the shelf. worked with the backroom guy to stay on top of what came in the back door. one thing i prided myself on was that i was always quick to help anyone out ... whenever a vendor and department head would ask me to check something ... i'd do it right away. i never told them it was too late ... i never told them they'd have to wait.
it's one of those jobs that requires you to do and think about 67 things at one time. to literally be able to walk by a display or an end-cap ... and to know that you changed that exact price just that morning ... and get a new sign made and hung. i could change probably 1000 tags a day ... and could walk the store and know just what i changed. could tell you in a moment what was on display, where it was in the store, what displays had to come down, and what items were displayed in several different locations. i could tell vendors what was going on sale and when ... doritos this week, lays next week, etc.
i had 2 great people working for me ... and with me. our sign maker, tommy, was a little on the lazy side ... and took all day to make the signs i could make in just an hour ... but he was funny as heck and a good kid. then i had my assistant, janette ... who was such a great friend and a good worker. when she got busy with school and worked less hours ... i picked up the slack. truth be told ... i could have run that department by myself. i'm like that with paperwork and office type stuff ... i was the same way when i worked in accounting. i'm organized and efficient when it comes to getting a ton of crazy things done at the same time ... i'm the master multi-tasker.
then janette left me for more schooling and they had to get me a new assistant. so the chick from the front end came over to the department. let's call her sandra (because really, that's her name). sandra was ok ... she could be a good worker when she wanted. she was good with paperwork ... i'll give her that. she could also disappear and you'd never be able to find her. it was a pretty well-known fact that she liked to "disappear" with the soda vendors ... in the parking lot ... doing lord knows what (and yes, she was married). it was also well-known that she ... how do i put this ... let's just say she would NOT have passed a random drug test while on the job. and one more well-known fact ... she was very "in" with the store manager, if you know what i mean. everyone knew this. sandra was one of those people that could just get away with anything.
then i went on maternity leave and had sarah. so sandra took over while i was gone along with another gal that stepped in for a bit. things got messed up ... prices weren't accurate like they were before ... things didn't run as smoothly as when i was there. so then i came back ... and i fixed things. got things back in order. i had a 3 yr old and a newborn at home ... and i still managed to work the crazy hours. and i could still get everything done in no time at all. the head of pricing for the division knew i could do it all ... she knew i was good ... and she knew our pricing was accurate.
then one day about 2 months after being back from maternity leave ... the store manager told me that he was taking me out the department. my "POS manager" title was being taken away ... and i would become a checker. wth? no reason, no explanation. i hadn't done anything wrong ... nothing that anyone could tell me. convienently, sandra was then promoted ... and given top pay just like that. after all ... she was "in" with the store manager ... so you can add that all up, right? the head of pricing for the division said there was nothing she could do ... that it was the managers decision and that she couldn't change that. i was pissed that she didn't have my back ... that she just left me on my own. so i went to the district manager ... i told him how i felt, questioned the "managerial" decision, defended my abilities at being able to do it all, and gave the facts about sandra not performing at the standards that were required. he basically said that it was a done deal ... did i forget to mention that him and the store manager were friends too? i went to the union ... but they said there was nothing they could do either. as long as they didn't take away my full-time status ... and still gave me my top pay ... it was totally up to the store manager as to what job i was assigned too and he could put me wherever he wanted to.
i refused to be a checker again. nothing against being a cashier (in fact, i did do it again on occasion when i ended up back at safeway a year later). that's just not what i was hired by foodmaxx to do. i never studied for my product test ... one of the things i would have to pass to be a checker. luckily the grocery manager was on my side ... he knew things weren't right. so he found me other things to do. i started doing schematics ... re-setting shelves and displays. working in new items and helping him with inventories. i started working in the GM department (general merchandise, as in health & beauty) ... ordering and stocking product. i would go to other foodmaxx stores and audit them ... basically randomly checking their prices to see how accurate they were. i started doing the price-checking ... where i'd go out in the middle of the night to competitor stores with our master price list in hand ... and would go around and make note of all their prices ... then send it to corportate where they would adjust our prices off my notes. not a ton of fun ... but the night crew guys at the other stores got to know me and didn't mind me "spying".
meanwhile ... sandra was messing up the store. she wasn't keeping up on things. test-scan scores were low ... and the price audits were terrible. vendors weren't happy ... and she wasn't too nice to work with. you'd have to wait for things you might need ... until she decided she had time. part of me secretly enjoyed watching her mess up ... i knew she was stressed and overwhelmed. but at the same time ... it made me sad to think that they really thought she was a better POS manager. i know the decision wasn't based on anything professional ... it was a personal decision of the store manager.
i sucked it up and worked there another year. i did have to work with sandra for things ... i hated when i had to ask her to create an item for me or put something on sale for me ... and she'd take forever to get to it. but i did it. after about a year ... i got a job back over at safeway ... where i had started out when i was just 16. assistant to the file maintanance manager (which is really the same thing as POS). things were just as crazy there ... only a different kind of crazy. totally different pricing system and way of doing things. but everyone would remark on how good i was at the job ... how effecient. they knew the older lady in charge didn't do anything all day ... that i was doing it all. to this day i get told that i could run that department by myself ... and i know i could. after about 8 months i quit safeway for a second time ... to move to our new house and start a daycare business. and with that, my 12 years in grocery came to an end.
ok ... now the point of this whole long-winded story? lol! first i want to say that lots of things in this old story remind me of things going on right now. but i know what could happen here. someone could come on here and read into every word i typed ... and think that i mean "this" and "that" literally ... that i'm accusing people of everything i just wrote. so here's my disclaimer ... i'm not accusing anyone of adultery, or drug use, or being "in" with the boss, or anything like that. lol! just a general "lots-of-things-in-this-old-situation-remind-me-of-things-going-on-right-now-in-a-random-kind-of-way" type of thing.
actually, i think i'll just leave it at that. no real need to get all specific anyways ... won't really do me any good. plus, i think that was a long enough story don't you think? lol! i really am an amazing story-teller ... i have this ability to make any given story about 4 times longer than it really needs to be. can i make my point in 2 paragraphs? sure ... but wouldn't 13 be more fun?!?!? i've been dying to tell that story though. and since angie mentioned it today while on the phone ... it was meant to be shared today, right?
btw ... are you're wondering how angie fits into this story? she worked in the GM department ... and became the head of the department sometime in that story. so i worked under her basically. such a good friend. we kept in touch when i left ... and then when i moved out here. then she recently moved out here ... and started her own daycare business in her home. i think it's truely amazing that she is the one and only person that i keep in touch with from my old life. and by "old life" ... i mean "back-in-the-day". i've lost touch with every single other person from high school, all my grocery years, and old friends in general. but we still talk every week. love that.
and your reward if you made it all the way through this story? first off ... you have my undying "thanks" for listening. journaling about this stuff really does make me feel better ... even if it may make no sense to you sometimes. and i can't guarantee you all a reward ... but how about 2 of you? i had no intention of doing this ... but i'm feeling quilty for writing such a long story. lol! leave me a comment ... and i'll draw 2 names for a RAK. don't know what it'll be yet ... but i've been cleaning out some stuff and i have to go to the post office on tuesday anyway. lol! i'll draw the names monday night!
the girls had been home today for quite a few hours (early day, so they were home after lunch). i was sitting there looking at amanda for no real reason ... and it just hit me. i asked her "what are you wearing?". i walked into the kitchen and grabbed my scrapbook stuff that i need to work on ... and took it over to her and held it up against her shirt. perfect match!
needless to say ... i made her take some pictures for me! not really a problem since she loves to pose for me and my camera! i couldn't get over how perfect this was. not that i usually take photos specifically for product or layouts ... i usually just dig around until i find some older photos that work. but i couldn't resist this. of coarse, after i took a few pictures ... i went back in the house. then i look out the window and she had taken her hair down. i picked my camera right back up and made her take some more! which is how i got the next one. isn't she just gorgeous?
so i'll be printing a few of these tomorrow and scrapping ... along with some other ones i found on my harddrive. and i'll finally be working on something that i've been carrying around this house for about 6 weeks. lol! i like to do stuff like that. i have these large ziploc bags with certain projects ... or my clear 12x12 containers. and i bring them downstairs every day ... just in case i have a few minutes to get creative ... or in case all the kids nap at the same time. but i usually never get to anything. even if the kids do nap at the same time ... it's hard sometimes to start being creative if i know my time could be up any minute. it can be done ... but i have a hard time with that. so then every night i bring the stuff back upstairs with me ... thinking i'll get creative then ... or i'll work on things while the girls are showering or watching tv. but i usually don't ... i'm usually too tired or just vegging on the computer. so the next morning i have high hopes once again ... and bring it back down. then back up. and so on and so on. you get the long-winded point i'm trying to make, right? lol!
i really need to get some new pictures of my girls. i've been showing some of the daycare kids ... but not my own kids. lol! i honestly havn't taken hardly any photos in the last 2 months ... and only about 6 of them have been of alyssa or sarah. we're definately going to have to make time for that this weekend. i feel a photo shoot coming on. i can almost feel them cringing at me in their sleep. i'm certain they know it's coming. lol! it's a good time though ... since the weather has been nicer around here this week.
and just for fun ... i thought i'd pull up an old photo of amanda just to show how she's grown. maybe i'll do the other kids too ... in their own post. i dug deep for this one. august 2005. this was one of my very first digital photos ... i had just gotten my camera and knew nothing about it. ahhhhh, look at the itty-bitty! 2 1/2 years ago ... she was only 5 years old!
and just an interesting, fun fact. this photo here from august 2005 ... this was my 213th photo. and the first one i shared on this post ... that was my 8066th photo. so i've taken 8000 photos in 2 1/5 years? that sounds like a lot ... and yet it doesn't at the same time. lol! edited to add: ok, i just did the math in my head ... and i guess that is a lot of photos. if i did that correctly, that would average out to about 250 photos a month. not too bad!
and completly unrelated ... i've been having some issues with my email the last 2 days. i'm assuming i'm getting all my emails ... and i'm assuming my emails are getting sent. but maybe i shouldn't be so quick to assume. i do know that i cannot get into my address book ... which makes it hard to email someone unless i know their address by heart (which i know none of mine) ... or if i can track down a previous email from/to you in my "sent" box or my "trash" ... and then copy and paste your address. so long story short ... if i owe you an email, or you havn't heard from me, or if you just want an email from me (because honestly, why would you not?!?! lol!) ... try me again. i think i'm caught up ... but you never know. lol!
remember when i told you a few weeks ago that i would share my book i had done at shutterfly? well ... i'm finally ready. i tell you ... when i say i'll do something ... i do it. it may not be until a few weeks later ... but eventually i get to it. lol!
so this is a 12x12 book ... 20 pages long. i have a single photo on the front ... the only photo i had that had the majority of the kids in it. once i got the idea for what i wanted to do ... it came together very quickly. i used the same page design for each of the daycare kids ... simple background and just included their name on one side. did the rough black edges around all the photos. i had 8 kids ... but had to combine matthew and nickolas together. mainly because they were'nt here as long last year so i didn't have as many pics ... but now that i think about it i could have just had 2 pages added to give them their own pages. then i had 4 pages at the end of the book that just had random photos of everyone.
one of the reasons i ended up loving this book ... is that it just summed up our year perfectly. i have tons of photos of all the kids here. in fact, there were a few more kids i wanted to include ... but these 8 were our main kids. and a lot of those photos i have scrapped on numerous layouts. and i have all the others in the simple albums. and there are tons of fun pictures that i just honestly wouldn't scrap ... terrible to say ... but the more everyday, crazy shots are ones that i wouldn't usually pull out to scrap. so i love that this book has all those in there ... all together in one place. so fun to look through!
and this cutie here ... she gave me heck today! lol! not exactly sure what "heck" is ... but i'm pretty sure that's what she was dishin out to me! really clingy and demanding ... kept getting mad when i put her down to take care of nikolas. and then when the fedex dude stopped by (which was all good since he was bring me a goodie box with some returned layouts) ... she flipped out. i don't know if she thought i was leaving ... i simply went on the porch to get the box. lol! took about 10 minute to calm her back down. but then she looks at me with those eyes ... and i can't stay frustrated for long. cuteness can definately get you places with me! lol!
got caught up in stuff and forgot about my blog. lol! have nothing specific to blog about ... so here's some random stuff for you.
i've seriously been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to think of some other random stuff ... and my mind suddenly went blank. so i guess that's it for now!
i mentioned i had started a few new layouts. i had found some fun new making memories product at target the other night ... the "garden party collection". i also found some great new embellishments at michaels too ... but i havn't used those yet. anyways ... i wanted to play around but wasn't feeling like being super creative. so i decided to "lift" a few of my favorite artists. "lifting" (for you non-scrappers who lurk here. lol!) means taking a layout that was designed by someone else ... and using all of it or parts of it for your own layout. i see so many layouts and designs that i just love ... but rarely do i take the time to use those ideas.
this layout was inspired by robyn ... one of my absolute favorite designers. she has so much incredible talent ... love all the detail she puts into all her layouts. there are so many layouts of her's that i would love to pull something from and make it my own. but i wanted to choose one ... and THIS ONE that she shared a few days ago was always one that i loved ... so i decided to lift that one. i loved all the flowers going down the side of the layout ... and i knew these dimensional stickers would be perfect. the pattern papers and dimensional stickers are from the new MM "garden party" collection ... and there are a few chipboard accents and the big felt flower that were from a new little MM embellishment kit that i found at michaels ... rubons, photo corners, and chipboard strip are heidi swapp ... ribbon is lil davis ... and rhinestones are just craft supply.
one of my other favorite scrappers is maggie. i have always loved her style. such a clean, linear style i think ... but just like robyn, tons of fun touches and details. and her photography ... simply gorgeous! there was a layout of her's from a few years ago that i just loved ... and this layout here was inspired by that. i used her same exact design and pretty much the same type products. she doesn't have it posted anywhere that i can link you ... but trust me, this looks pretty close to hers! lol! i ended up using totally different product than i started with ... mainly because i was looking for certain colors. cardstock and embossed cardstock is KI memories ... pattern grid paper is scenic route ... plastic letters are heidi swapp ... prima flowers, magic mesh, random ribbon, and brads and a clip.
so thank you to robyn and maggie ... for always inspiring me with their talent! and i have to say that they are both so super nice and always willing to help me with tips or advice. ok ... enough gushing. lol! i have some other designers that are on the top of my "favorites list" ... so i will have to do a few more layouts inspired by them. but this was fun ... still creating ... but not having to do so much of the thinking! lol!
and i'm going to appologize for the crappy photos ... and any more that come out crappy in the next few days or weeks. apparently we have been hit by the "winter" weather finally. for the past week it has been rainy, cold, windy, stormy, dark, and dreary. and that means that my house is like a dungeon ... i seriously have NOOOOO light in my house. which has made taking photos of my projects really hard. i won't tell you how many times i tried to take these photos today ... and they just never showed the coloring as they really look in real life. so you'll have to imagine them more bright and colorful. lol!
and i'll leave you with this birthday card i made this afternoon for a little girlie. just a quick one. since i had the embossed cardstock out for the above layout ... stumbled across this cupcake cardstock and had to use it. just rubbed sandpaper over it to highlight the embossed part. and what about that cupcake? i know, i know ... i never claimed to be a good paper-piecer or a good doodler. lol! and now that i look at this ... i totally should have added a cherry on top!
has this been the longest week ever? i knew this would happen ... i was talking about it last week. i figured this week would be long and tiring. because after all ... the last two weeks were fairly easy. what with christmas and new years in there ... and having some extra days off work. so this was really the first week being back to a full week. and i was right ... this week feels never-ending.
it hasn't been a super crazy week. hasn't been a bad week. just a long one. even on the fairly easy day i had ... it just seemed like i accomplished nothing. i have had some scrapbook stuff out to work on ... some paperwork that needed taken care of ... some forms to fill out and mail off for things. and for some reason i just couldn't find the time to sit and do any of those things. it was as if i couldn't take even 5 minutes straight to give my attention to any one thing (excluding the kids ... i took very good care of them for the record. lol!). i did manage to take care of my paperwork finally tonight ... my little pile on the kitchen counter is gone. signed up for my refresher infant/child cpr and first aid class ... that is seriously going to kill me to sit for 8 hours straight. filled out choir forms for the girls. ordered school spirit tshirts for the girls. paid a few bills. all homework is signed and ready for tomorrow.
and i even managed to scrap tonight. i have some stuff that i seriously need to work on. only thing is i happen to go out last night to take care of a few errands ... and stumbled upon a ton of new scrapbook stuff! so now ... the "new" new stuff is distracting me from the "other" new stuff. and i'm confused ... i don't know what i want to use first. lol! i came up with a brilliant idea tonight ... since i wanted to scrap but didn't want to think too much. i just have to journal my page and i'll share it tomorrow. hoping to do 2 more ... i have something in mind already. we'll see how tomorrow goes. after all ... tomorrow is friday!!! that means we've made it through this week ... so how bad can it be?!?! lol!
and before i go ... i have to share the funniest thing i heard all week. i get a ton of amusement from these kids ... my own kids and the daycare kids. so many funny things and crazy stories. have to start writing more of them down. but this one was HILARIOUS.
here's to tomorrow ... and hoping that this coming weekend lasts just as long as this week seems to have! lol!
just wanted to share some cards i made yesterday. i had just finished up some assignments and had all sorts of scraps out ... so figured i'd make some cards just for fun. the first 2 are using the new MM love story collection ... which is available now.
this first one is actually a chipboard coaster from bazzill that i decorated ... it's a 5x5 coaster. back when i first found keisha's blog ... she was doing a ton of these coasters and i thought it was the neatest idea. she has tons more ... but i can't find them on her blog right now. seriously, it took me about 10 minutes to find that link. lol! so now you really owe it to me to go check her out if you havn't already ... you will not be disappointed ... the girl is super talented! anyways ... one reason i thought they'd be fun is just to use them to "play". just a chance to use some fun product ... not worry about pictures or journaling (although they would be fun that way too!) ... just to create and have fun. so long story short ... i finally did a coaster. lol!
super simple one. i had actually painted and glitter painted a different chipboard circle for this ... but i was to impatient to let it dry so i grabbed this already-glittered one.
these next 3 are from the MM 5th avenue collection. these are from the red collection ... i'm anxious to get my hands on the blue collection! i heard 5th avenue starts shipping at the end of the month ... so keep your eye out for it!
what is this ... possibly a birthday card? i always say that i should only allow myself to make birthday cards ... because i always need them and yet never have any. lol! i think this green suede ribbon goes with the blue collection ... but it was in my stuff so i just went with it ... adds a nice touch i think.
this is one of the older MM cards ... it opens in the middle to both sides.
this one is super simple .. almost too simple for me. and that green "l" is sort of bugging me now. lol! i had to pull a few chipboard letters from my christmas collection. you would not believe how much time i can spend picking out letters trying to get the perfect color order ... and figuring out what i can actually spell with what letters i have left!
and i just have to share this story ... one of those "typical-could-only-happen-to-laura" type stories. ok, so it could happen to anyone ... but these things tend to happen to me all the time. lol! remember last month when i went to the postal annex (a mini-post office) to mail my christmas cards ... it was this post (scroll down)? and i mentioned that i wasn't quite sure i could trust the dude that works there? that i thought he just pulled numbers out of the sky? now i'm convinced that i'm right! nikolas and i went out today to mail off a layout ... in a priority box that weighed next to nothing. i mail layouts like this all the time in the exact same box ... and it's always about $5.00 to mail. the dude tells me it'll be $15.00 ... what the heck? i tell him "no, that's not right". so after a few minutes he tells me it'll be $8.00 ... still not right. i finally just grabbed the box back and told him that "i will take it to the REAL post office!". and sure enough ... went to the other postal annex (which is almost like a regular post office) and it was $4.50 ... although i did have to wait in line there. lol!
and i don't know if this means anything. but today i drank a vitamin water ... the "focus" one specifically. i have never tried these before ... but picked up a few this weekend while at target. the labels on these are hilarious ... and the descriptions on the website are pretty funny too! i don't know if was a coincidence or not ... but i was extremely focused and got so much done today! lol!
i know it's only been 2 days since i last posted ... and yet i have this continuous nagging voice in my head that tells me i need to come and post something new. lol!
i have no pictures to share. and i have no layouts to share. and i have no ideas for insightful or humorous story telling right now.
just busy this weekend with some creating ... some scrapping. have some assignments to get done ... leave it to me to always leave things to the last minute. that's the way i do things ... i work best under pressure! although i did finish something today that isn't due for an entire week ... so really, i'm ahead! i have lots of fun stuff on my desk right now ... and i'm feeling inspired. even making a few things just to share with you. so watch for it.
and then i've been busy organizing. maybe it's the new year ... wanting to start clean and fresh. one thing i tackled today was my paperwork. well, some of it anyways. cleaned out all my files and took everything from last year out and into it's new home ... love my expandable file holder that i keep for each year. sorting things out that i need for taxes and stuff. don't get me started on my daycare paperwork though ... that's going to take me some time. you'd think i'd learn and actually keep up with it all year-long. but no ... i have reciepts to go through and itemize, meals to count, accounts to be tallied, and much more. once again ... you see how i saved it till the end ... it's that whole "procrastination-why-do-it-now-when-i-can-do-it-later-work-better-under-pressure" thing i like to have going on. it keeps me on my toes!
will be back in the next day or two. maybe a random post is in order ... havn't done one of those this year, right?!?! lol!
actually took my camera out today ... i haven't taken any pictures in weeks. sad! the girls went back to school today ... so it was just me and the babies hanging out together. wanted to share a few really quick.
poor nikolas ... at that age where we can do things to him and he really can't complain. lol! i was trying to get haley to wear the glasses ... but she wanted nothing to do with it. but nikolas sat there for days with these on. lol! i think he's looking pretty cool! and i know that kids toys are supposed to be colorful and all ... to grab their attention. but this excersaucer ... it really gives some serious "color-overload" in photos!
so glad to have nikolas back. he's been gone for over a week since his mom was off work for the holidays. this morning i asked him what new stuff he was learning while he was gone. a little bit later he was on his tummy ... and got up on all fours, rocking back and forth. he got some movement going ... before i know it he'll be crawling. he's also into rolling around. he rolls to the right every time ... and just keeps going until he hits a wall or something. then i turn him around and he goes at it again. such a cutie!
haley ... my girlie! she is at that super fun age. not that i didn't have fun with her before ... just that i love this age so much. she's 14 months now. it was exactly this time last year when ady turned 1 ... and it was the same with her. the girls had just gone back to school after their break ... so it was mainly her and i all day. i had the best time hanging out with her ... and i'm having the same thing with haley lately. so much personality ... she understands me ... she "asks" me for things ... and she finds me hilarious!
i had alyssa take this photo of us this afternoon. i had my camera out earlier ... but i'm having a hard time getting any pictures of haley. she comes right at me so fast ... and stands right in front of me. she doesn't "get" that she has to back up! and you see what she's holding ... my lens cap. all she kept doing was coming at me ... and trying to stick it on my lens. love that she knows exactly what it is. lol!
i totally forgot to take some pics of the daycare book i got from shutterfly. i have a fun idea to share it with you ... so i'll do that in the next day or two.
i did one more page today for my christmas journal ... still have a few left that i hope to get to in the next few days to finish it up. and i had another page from last week that i missed posting. unfortunatley ... i missed the good sun by minutes. so these are a little blurry ... will retake them tomorrow. and btw ... i added an album on the sidebar that has all my journal pages in it together.
day #26 ... to journal about the "day after" christmas and what goes on. the day after around here is all about the clean-up and putting away process. i spent all day this year sorting, unpackaging, and putting away stuff. but i have to do it right away ... can't stand to wait and let it all sit around. plus ... having little ones around makes it more necessary to get things done. we're all for sharing around here ... but not the super new stuff. lol! haley was here last week that day ... and she would grab stuff that i was trying to clean up ... and then take off. i think the chapsticks were her favorite. lol! everything on here is making memories.
day #18 i think ... to journal about the christmas menu ... what you're eating on the big day. this is our menu from our saturday get-together with joe's family and friends. that was a good meal! lol! christmas day was at my parents house ... a lot of the same good foods. i photographed this page 4 seperate times ... lighting issues, and then the red foil circles were showing up super dark ... finally realized i had to get it at an angle to get the red to show. heidi swapp chipboard letters ... and everything else is making memories.
and i was printing off some of my daily prompts the other day ... and realized that for once i was ahead of the game. day #29 was to make a title page for our album. and i did that last week ... yay me!
also wanted to share the mini-albums i made for the grandma's this christmas. these were super simple ... 4x4 KI memories felt albums. they each have 20 pages ... so that's 40 back to back. i simply cut my photos down to 4x4 and then added in 4x4 pieces of pattern paper. super simple embellishments and some ribbon. these are not great photos ... i took these really quick on christmas morning after i finished them ... and before handing them out. lol! and i just took a few of the inside pages ... you'll get what i was doing though.
just spend a relaxing day around the house today. joe was sleeping since he worked last night. the girls were actually playing together super nicely ... they have polly pockets and lil pet shop stuff everywhere. and i actually scrapped ... some actual, regular layouts. i think the last layout i did was about 2 months ago. lol! but i got 3 done today. i'm holding off on sharing them since i'm submitting the for a call ... even though i'm dying to share one of them. the photo collage on it took me FOREVER ... but so worth it in the end! i'm also working on getting all my photos caught up some ... i have tons of misc photos that need to get stored on my external harddrive ... just ones that never made it to the right folder and got overlooked. so off to finish up that!
