This week and next, over on the Bella Blvd blog, we're revealing our new Summer 2016 collections and products. There are five new Bella collections, three new Illustrated Faith collections, and a new release of Illustrated Faith basics as well. I’ll be sharing peeks at these collections here as well, along with some layouts that I created for the catalog.
Today, we are revealing the new Oh My Stars collection, along with a new Spooktacular collection for Halloween (which you can find on the Bella blog from earlier today). The Oh My Stars collection is a new basics collection. What I love about these collections is that you get one great pattern, in all of the colors Bella is known for. And I could not be more excited to have a large variety of star patterned papers coming out, as they can really go with just about any theme or subject matter.
I got to work with the Oh My Stars collection for a catalog layout. There are so many colors to choose from within the collection, so I had to narrow down my choices for printing purposes. I knew the white plus-sign patterned paper would make a great background paper, and from there I picked out some of the star patterns, along with a few tone-on-tone patterns, in navy blue, aqua, yellow, green, and blacks.
I had the idea to create square blocks of layered papers/photos, in order to work lots of different patterned papers onto the page. I printed out a few old photos of Sarah, as I thought the blue and green in the photos worked perfectly for this page. From there, I cut little blocks from all of my patterned papers, in two different sizes.
Then I just started playing with the papers, trying out different layering options, and placement on the page, to get a color combination that I liked. This took way longer than it should have. I love to over think things, to the point of it being a little ridiculous. I also pulled out the Tabbies package (actually mock up product, so a piece of paper that I cut them out of) and found a coordinating tab to add to each layered square.
I distressed the edges of each and every square of patterned paper, and then machine stitched around the edges. I did all of the machine stitching on these before I layered them together. I adhered the bottom patterned paper directly to the page, and then adhered the smaller square of patterned paper using pop dots.
I printed out my journaling to add to one of the layered squares and trimmed down a 3x4" card from the Daily Details paper to fit another layered square. Luckily, trimming it down still kept the design in tact. Whew. I had pulled out one of the Caio Chip script sets, and pulled a chipboard word out to add to another layered square, and realized that the little plus signs fit perfectly over the x's on the "I Love You More" card, so I added a few of those on there.
I also used some of the stars from the Paper Pieces die cut package to embellish the page. I lucked out, and was able to find enough in the colors I was using on the page, and added them to the top and bottom of the page. A few white star enamels finished them off.
For my title, I used the "Love You" letters found in the Paper Pieces die cut package. I just love the fun font on the letters.
Head on over to the Bella Blvd blog to check out the new Oh My Stars collection in full, and get in on a chance to win-it-before-you-can-buy-it!
